What are you thinking about doing for the research project? What topics do you find interesting? What rhetorical angles? Do you see yourself using any of the essays we've recently read as models for your project?
I’m thinking about doing my research project on the rhetoric of barbeque or rhetoric of hot sauce. I find the cooking of barbeque to be interesting since different parts of the United States cook barbeque differently. Also, I may write my paper on the rhetoric of hot sauce. I find that my rhetorical angle will be to describe the relationship between geographic location and rhetoric used, whether it be barbeque or hot sauce. I don’t see myself using any of the previous essays as models for my project, since the essays I’ve read deal with the issue of whether or not to eat meat. I will try to depict a relationship between rhetoric used in terms of geographic location, not so much the issue of whether someone should or shouldn’t eat meat.
I am thinking about doing one of two things. I am considering analyzing the rhetoric used in fast food ads pre-Supersize Me and comparing it to present day. Then my other idea is to analyze the rhetoric used in cook books to show how the that time period's issues and diet crazes affect the repices and diction used.
I enjoyed Krissy Clark's "How To Cook A Wolf" that made me want to read MFK Fischer's book, because she sounds like a smart lady that was beyond her time with many of her ideas. I liked how both texts drew on WWII and the food shortages people were forced to deal with. I think these historical aspects of food or food scarcity are key to understanding many events in history. Many world events center around food or the access to food. This makes me want to focus on this in my research paper somehow. Maybe in relation to food security, which is what these texts "How to Cook a Wolf" and "Victory Gardens" both have to do with. I also feel like this topic could tie into food and religion or food and ethnicity. The next step is finding good sources to rhetorically analyze and determining which of these areas would be the most interesting to research. Or I still may do food art… it is hard to decide.
I am in between two choices for my paper at this moment. First, I am thinking about doing my paper on gender rhetoric and chocolate. I'm not too fond of chocolate so I think it will be interesting to look at this obsession from a different point of view. I am also thinking about maybe doing my paper on food security in relation to chocolate and the language of this commodity.
im pretty sure im going to do the rhetoric of advertizing in Fast Food over the years. i will probably look at how advertisements from the first fast food restaurants compare to the advertisements now and everything in between.
i have two ideas that i can't decide which one to pick. the first is how food is portrayed on tv shows and the measures that they go to with extreme eating and competition and the second is the rhetoric of the food pyramid and how the food pyramid affects the types of foods made and advertised by companies. For example, how V8, which was basically just tomato juice, started making V8 splash with a better tasting product but the lack of the nutrition.
I am thinking about doing my research project on the rhetoric of chocolate specifically women's desire for chocolate, and how ads convey chocolate as a replacement for love and passion. I'm a little concerned about this topic because I feel it is probably overused, but I am pathetically addicted to chocolate so I find it fitting. As a back up plan, I am also tossing around ideas related to the rhetoric of the 100 calorie pack fad.
I believe I will be writing my paper on the rhetoric of tea. Tea has so much history to it and seems to be spreading around the western side of the world like wildfire. There also have been numerous discoveries regarding tea’s positive impact on health and they keep on coming out. I might focus on the marketing trend of tea over the past few decades and the whole craze for healthy beverages.
I have absolutely no idea what I will be focusing on for my research paper. Maybe something to do with food and the way it is advertised? I have the hardest time picking out research paper topics and I am having an especially hard time with food. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
I am not too sure about what topic I am going to choose for the research paper. I am very interested in the whole vegetarian movement as I am vegetarian, and have read a lot of information on the idea behind it. I think my paper with involve this theme, but as to what I am going to connect it with just yet, I have no idea.
I think I am going to write about Fast Food restaurants and how they have changed over the years. I think I am going to mainly focus on how the menus have changed and how there are now more health conscious choices on the menu. I am hoping to tie this in with content and analyze the whole organic, eating right kick that our culture has been on. I don't think I will be using any of the articles that we have used in class thus far, but after the research day in the library I think I might have more of an idea of where to find some sources about Fast Food. If anyone has any points or comments to share with me to help me get started with my paper, it would be greatly appreciated!
I think I am going to write about the rhetoric of coffee. I am going to focus on the differences and similarities between Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. I will not be using any of the texts we used in class. I want to analyze the different target audiences of each company in terms of blue collar and white collar workers. I think there has been a melting together of the target audiences over time. If anyone has any suggestions for me I would love to hear them.
